CHILDREN under 3 years
Why I won't paint children under the age of 3 years
It's a matter of safety. Simple as that.
While the face paints I use are all professional grade, hypoallergenic, cosmetic and dermatologically safe, none have been tested for safe use on children under the age of 3 years. It is my duty and a requirement of my insurance, that I adhere to the product safety guidelines set by the manufactures of the products in my professional face painting kit.
This can be disappointing for some people, but I prioritise safety over everything else. I always carry stickers with me for those children under 3, who really want a painting, but I will stand firm.
My policy is, I will not paint children under the age of 3 years due to the inherent risks.
The Facts:
All the manufacturers of the paints in my kit state "not recommended for children under 3 years".
While it is rare, allergic reactions to cosmetics are more likely to affect young children and those with sensitive skin.
Children under 3 years of age have more sensitive skin and their skin differs from older skin on a cellular level. Their skin is more permeable meaning the ingredients and chemicals in cosmetics are absorbed more easily.
Children under 3 years of age are more likely to move suddenly during the painting process putting them at risk of the paint brush slipping and hurting them.
Children under 3 years are more likely to touch their faces, potentially spreading face paint to their mouths, eyes clothing or other surfaces.
Removing face paint from younger children may cause distress, even if the appropriate removal method of gentle soap and water is used.
